Adaptive re-use of a 110 year old heritage-graded 3B listed structure

A new tension is set up between two sections of the house: the first section (now the master suite wing) retains the historic fabric of the house including stone fireplace, pressed decorative ceilings and historic moldings; the second section entails the removal of all damaged historic fabric and now contains all living functions. This space is opened up to expose original Oregon kingpin trusses and generally appropriated for modern living, now also forging a link with the garden courtyard to the south.

The presence of both historic and new sections of the house is apparent using the device of a clerestory window above a dominant joinery spine element separating these two sections.
